FARMINGTON — The Korn Ferry Tour announced Monday that it will restart its tournament schedule next month including the annual Utah Championship scheduled for June 22-28 at Oakridge Country Club.
However, the golf tournament will be played without fans on the course, the Tour announced, which will be the case for the first four events on the new schedule.
The Korn Ferry Tour had completed six events through the El Bosque Mexico Championship by INNOVA in early March. Ten events have since been canceled and the revised schedule will include 23 tournaments.
The first event on the restarted schedule will be the Korn Ferry Challenge at TPC Sawgrass in Florida, June 8-14, followed by the King & Bear Classic St. Augustine, Florida, June 15-20.
Utah has been one of the stops on the Korn Ferry Tour, which has had six different title sponsors, since its inception as the Ben Hogan Tour in 1990, except for two years. Tournament officials are happy to have the tournament back next month.
“Utah’s stunning mountain backdrop will provide an amazing showcase of the great Korn Ferry Tour players returning to action on The Golf Channel,” said Jeff Robbins, president and CEO of the Utah Sports Commission.
As for fans, they won’t be allowed on course at least through the first four events, according to a release from the Korn Ferry Tour.
“The Korn Ferry Tour will resume play with at least the first four events closed to the general public while continuing to monitor the COVID-19 situation and follow the recommendations of local and state authorities in order to determine the most appropriate on-site access in each market. Decisions on fan attendance at all events thereafter will be dependent on available protocols that could be implemented to ensure the health and well-being for all involved.”
Last week it was announced that eligibility has been extended for exempt 2019-20 PGA Tour members for the 2020-21 season and that the Korn Ferry Tour will not have a graduating class in 2020. However, the Tour has established a performance benefit for the top 10 from the Korn Ferry Tour points list following the conclusion of the season and those players will be granted access into all PGA Tour additional events for the 2020-21 season.
