LOGAN — Utah State’s men’s basketball team continues to round out its 2020-21 roster.

The school announced Monday evening that the latest to join the Aggies ranks is Matthew Wickizer.

A 6-foot-9 forward, who recently completed a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Wickizer prepped at Kearns High School in Salt Lake County.

“We are thrilled to announce that Matthew Wickizer will be joining our program. He grew up an Aggie fan and has tremendous passion for the Aggies. He fits the culture of our program as he will do whatever it takes for our team to be successful.” — Utah State coach Craig Smith

As a senior in 2017-18, he helped lead the Cougars to a 20-4 record, as well as a Region 2 title. Wickizer averaged 8.67 points and 4.8 rebounds per game as a senior, with breakout performances against Granger (18 points and 10 rebounds), Cyprus (15 points and 11 rebounds) and Hillcrest (20 points, with six made 3-pointers), among others.

In a statement, Utah State coach Craig Smith said Matthew has “great size, skill, and can really shoot the ball.”

He is the son of Kearns High and USU basketball alumnus Nate Wickizer, who played for the Aggies from 1992-95 and ranks second in program history with 148 career rejections.

“We are thrilled to announce that Matthew Wickizer will be joining our program,” Smith said. “He grew up an Aggie fan and has tremendous passion for the Aggies. He fits the culture of our program as he will do whatever it takes for our team to be successful.”

Wickizer’s addition comes in the wake of recent commitments from Polish center Szymon Zapala and Ukrainian guard Max Shulga, as well as the return of junior center Neemias Queta.
