PROVO — Longtime assistant Greg Vehar is the new director of BYU’s Cougar Club, the school announced Monday.

Vehar takes over for 24-year director Mike Middleton, who stepped away in May to become assistant dean of external relations at BYU’s law school. Vehar had been assistant director since 2000.

“I’ve worked closely with Greg for many years and have been impressed with his ability to serve our club members and help them in their efforts to support BYU student-athletes,” said BYU Associate Athletic Director of Development Chad Lewis in a school news release. “I am confident in his ability to grow the Cougar Club and strengthen the athletic department.”

An Orem native, Vehar graduated from BYU with a bachelor’s degree in communication and a minor in Spanish in 1993.

“I’m humbled and excited about the opportunity to serve as the director of the Cougar Club,” said Vehar. “I’m grateful to (athletic director) Tom Holmoe and Chad Lewis for the opportunity to continue working closely with our incredible donors to elevate and strengthen the athletic program at BYU. I have a great love for the university and what it represents.”

Vehar will oversee nearly 5,000 Cougar Club members and oversee football and basketball ticketing for club members. His new responsibilities include being responsible for numerous annual events with the charge to grow club membership.

Prior to 2000, Vehar worked as a supervisor at the University Press, where he oversaw the production of course material for BYU and the Missionary Training Center in Provo.
