SALT LAKE CITY — BYU golfer Carson Lundell advanced to the second round of the U.S. Amateur Wednesday, defeating Puwit Anupansuebsai of Thailand in 19 holes at Bandon Dunes, Oregon.

The 22nd-seeded Lundell, who attended Lone Peak High School, had led most of the match but lost the 18th hole, forcing a playoff. He won the match with a par on the first playoff hole.

Lundell will face Hunter Wolcott of Dickson, Tennessee, who defeated Elis Svard of Sweden in 21 holes, on Thursday. If Lundell wins that match, he’ll play in the round of 16 in the afternoon.
