PROVO — It took awhile, but the reports that BYU would add two more teams from Texas to its home football schedule in 2020 were finalized Wednesday afternoon.

The Cougars will host the University of Texas at San Antonio on Oct. 10 and Texas State University on Oct. 24 at LaVell Edwards Stadium, athletic director Tom Holmoe said in a school news release. Texas State is in the Sun Belt Conference and UTSA is in Conference USA.

“We are fortunate that UTSA and Texas State had open dates on their schedules which allowed them to travel to Provo,” said Holmoe. “We look forward to hosting them in LaVell Edwards Stadium and are excited to play football this fall.”

Kickoff times and broadcast plans will be announced later, “as will additional games as they are finalized,” according to BYU’s release.

Which opponents BYU is still pursuing has been bandied about social media and fan message boards for weeks. Among the schools being mentioned are Central Florida and Temple of the American Athletic Conference.

As for the most recent additions, UTSA has been in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) since 2012 when it belonged to the WAC. The Roadrunners have been in C-USA since 2013 and have a new coach, Jeff Traylor.

Texas State, which is in San Marcos, Texas, has been a member of the Sun Belt since 2013. The Bobcats are coached by Jake Spavital, who is in his second season.
