LOGAN — Mountain West football is coming soon to a stadium near you.

In an incredibly brief statement, the conference announced late Thursday night that there will be an 8-game season this fall for all 12 MWC teams.

Games will kick off the week of Oct. 24, while being subject to approval from state, county and local officials.

The conference championship game will be held on Dec. 19.

Included in Thursday’s announcement was the statement that more information on the return of football will be distributed Friday morning, but Utah State athletic director John Hartwell did say in a statement on Twitter, “Aggie Nation — Are you ready for some USU Football? Let’s go!!!.”

He continued in a later tweet, saying, “The MW Conf is working diligently to get us a schedule ASAP and USUAthletics is working on a limited capacity seating plan for USUFootball. We will get you details as soon as we can. Thanks for your continued support.”

University presidents and chancellors voted on the matter Thursday, Stadium’s Brett McMurphy reported, just three days after the conference’s athletic directors met to devise a plan to return to play. That plan included frequent antigen testing, per Yahoo Sports’ Pete Thamel.

Teams will have three weeks to prepare for the season prior to game week, and needless to say, the excitement level is high.

Utah State football’s official Twitter account perhaps best encapsulated the general feeling in a hype video posted on their account, and in what appeared to be a coordinated effort, several players tweeted photos with the caption “We are back.”
