BYU’s first conference game of the year will come against the West Coast Conference’s and nation’s best.

The Cougars will play at No. 1 Gonzaga this Thursday at 6:30 p.m. MST and the game will be broadcast on ESPN, confirming the news reported earlier in the day.

BYU was originally scheduled to play at Gonzaga on Feb. 6, and the matchup this Thursday will simply be a reschedule of that game. What will happen on the open Feb. 6 date now on BYU’s schedule is still to be determined.

BYU was previously scheduled to host Pacific on Thursday, before COVID-19 issues within the Tigers program forced a postponement. The Cougars also had their first two scheduled WCC games — last week at Pepperdine and San Diego — postponed because of COVID-19.

On Monday night, BYU coach Mark Pope tweeted the Cougars had a game lined up.

Gonzaga is undefeated on the year, moving to 10-0 with a victory over San Francisco last Saturday in the Zags’ WCC opener.

Gonzaga was originally scheduled to host Santa Clara this Thursday. The Broncos are currently on pause with COVID-19 contact tracing protocols within their program.
