  • Tipoff: Thursday, 6:30 p.m. MST
  • Venue: McCarthey Athletic Center (The Kennel)
  • TV: ESPN
  • Livestream: WatchESPN
  • Radio: BYU Sports Network on BYU Radio — Sirius XM 143/89.1 FM HD2 and KSL 102.7 FM/1160 AM.
  • Series: The Bulldogs lead the all-time series 18-5, although BYU won 91-78 the last time the two sides met on Feb. 22 of last year.

The stakes

For BYU: The Cougars are looking to get off to a strong start in West Coast Conference play, which a win over the best team in the country would certainly accomplish. A victory would also go a long way in boosting BYU’s NCAA Tournament resume.

For Gonzaga: The Bulldogs have been the best team in the nation and are looking to continue their strong start. Avenging last year’s loss to the Cougars would be an added bonus.

The trends

For BYU: The Cougars have won their last four conference openers.

For Gonzaga: The Bulldogs have won 33 straight games excluding the loss last February to the Cougars (they beat BYU in January 2020, 92-69).

Next up

Team schedules of course can change at the drop of a hat this season (this game is a prime example of that), but the Cougars are next scheduled to face Saint Mary’s on the road Jan. 14, while the Bulldogs are scheduled to play Portland on the road Saturday.
