The preliminary round of the 5A state swim meet was held Friday morning and afternoon at the Wasatch Aquatics Center in Heber City. There were two different sessions for the boys and girls.
Timpview’s girls and Olympus’ boys are the defending 5A state champs.
The most impressive performance of the meet came in the 100 breaststroke as Olympus senior Alexander Turney set a new overall state record with an incredibly fast time of 55.86.
Olympus teammate Jack Saber posted the second-fastest qualifying time at 56.20, which also was fast enough to break the previous state record of 56.34 set by Bingham’s Tanner Nelson at the Region 3 meet a couple weeks ago.
With all three swimmers racing again this weekend, it’s a record that could fall again before the 2021 season comes to a close.
