Bingham swept all three categories at the 6A drill team state tournament at UVU on Thursday to win its second straight state championship.
Sweeping military, dance and show propelled the Miners to the convincing state title.
“This year has had so many ups and downs with Covid. We were quarantined several times, we had to be tested every 2 weeks, we lost dancers to Covid before competitions and had to reset our routines several times. All of it made these girls have to be mentally tough and work twice as hard. Even with all the adversity and struggle they won every single competition, received the region title, and became the 2021 state champs,” said Bingham coach Erika Cox.
Copper Hills finished second behind the Miners, which included a second-place finish in military.
Pleasant Grove finished second in dance, with Layton finishing second in show.

“To say I am proud of them is an understatement. The journey to state was not a walk in the park. Every day was blood, sweat and tears. There were days I wondered how to keep us going but together we persevered. These girls learned how to always keep pushing forward, even when it isn’t easy, and to never give up. Ultimately they reached their goal of earning the state trophy but they won far more than that. They won in each moment they had to push themselves past their limits, they won every time they got back up after something knocked them down, and they won with the sisterhood they built and will have forever.”
