The 11 seed BYU Cougars were five minutes away from pulling off their second upset in the NCAA Tournament on Wednesday evening in San Antonio, but the 3 seed Arizona Wildcats made the necessary plays down the stretch to survive and advance to the Sweet 16 with a 52-46 win.
Here are three keys from the game.
- Trailing 43-39 with less than five minutes to play, the Wildcats went on an 8-0 run to give themselves a four-point lead. The Cougars got within one with exactly two minutes to play on a 3-pointer from Tegan Graham, but BYU didn’t score again.
- Arizona star Aari McDonald didn’t have her best game, but she dominated on both ends of the floor down the stretch. In the final five minutes, she tallied seven points, three rebounds and a steal.
- In the combined eight quarters of play for both teams, double digits were scored in seven of them, but the Cougars scored just nine in the fourth.
