The new Madden NFL 22 cover is here. And it has some GOATs

Madden NFL 22 revealed its two cover athletes on Thursday morning, sharing which NFL stars will be on the cover of the more expensive Dynasty Edition and the normal MVP Edition.

• The covers will feature the two GOATs of the modern era — Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady and Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
• It looks like Brady and Mahomes will be cover athletes for the MVP Edition.

Are Brady and Mahomes the real GOATs?

As I wrote about before for the Deseret News, the term “GOAT” has taken on a new meeting in recent years, referring to the “greatest of all time.” Sometimes that doesn’t even mean you’re the greatest of all time. It just means you’re doing really, really well.

Sports reporter Jim Gray, the author of the book titled “Talking to GOATS: The Moments You Remember and the Stories You Never Heard,” told me in November 2020 that GOAT means more than just an athlete's skills and stats.

“How they train, how they prepare, how they treat people,” Gray told me. “All of these things add up to a bigger picture. It makes us see them more clearly, whether they’re contemporary or, you know, great.”
