The Philadelphia 76ers could be serious about the idea of trading Ben Simmons this offseason.
According to a report from The Athletic’s Shams Charania on Tuesday, the 76ers “have opened up trade conversations surrounding Simmons and have engaged with teams.”
Charania reported that, according to one source, the 76ers want an All-Star caliber player in return for Simmons, who himself has already been named an All-Star three times in just four seasons of play in the NBA (he missed his entire first year because of injury).
The 76ers finished the 2020-21 regular season with the best record in the Eastern Conference but fell to the Atlanta Hawks in the second round of the playoffs as Simmons struggled, leading many to think that Philadelphia should trade him for a player who can pair alongside center Joel Embiid better, with Portland Trail Blazers guard CJ McCollum being one who has been oft-mentioned.
Charania reported Tuesday that “interest across the league in Simmons remains robust.”
