Isaiah Thomas is attempting an NBA comeback, and he’ll begin his venture in Salt Lake City.

The two-time NBA All-Star is joining the Utah Jazz’s G League affiliate, Salt Lake City Stars, Shams Charania of The Athletic reported Tuesday on X.

Thomas last appeared with the Charlotte Hornets for 17 games in 2022. Since then, he’s been outspoken about his desire to return to professional basketball.

The Stars will be the 12th NBA or G League organization he has played for.

Originally drafted by the Sacramento Kings in 2011, the 5-foot-8 Thomas is best known for his three-year stint with the Boston Celtics from 2014-17, when he averaged 24.7 points and 6.0 assists with two All-Star nods to become a fan favorite across the league.

Prior to the 2017-18 season, Thomas was famously traded from Boston to the Cleveland Cavaliers in exchange for superstar Kyrie Irving. The deal was made by then-Celtics executive and current Jazz CEO of basketball operations Danny Ainge.

Hip injuries stunted Thomas’ career following the trade. He played for seven different teams after being quickly traded away from Cleveland.

Now 35 years old, having been out of basketball for two years and owning a checkered injury history, it’s unclear how effective Thomas can be for the Stars, let alone whether he’ll achieve his goal of making another NBA appearance.
