Former Utah cornerback Cameron Calhoun’s entrance into the transfer portal has been a hot topic around the state of Utah over the past week.

His entrance into the portal on Dec. 10 came as a surprise, as he had previously pledged his commitment to Utah on social media, only to explore his options.

Within hours of him entering the portal, BYU was one of several schools that Calhoun announced had already made him a scholarship offer.

Turns out, Calhoun, who started his college career at Michigan, will be headed to the other side of the country.

Where is Cameron Calhoun transferring to?

Calhoun is headed to national power Alabama, On3’s Hayes Fawcett reported Wednesday.

The Crimson Tide went 9-3 this season under first-year coach Kalen DeBoer. Alabama is set to play Michigan in the ReliaQuest Bowl on Dec. 31 after just missing out on a spot in the College Football Playoff.

How will Calhoun fit in at his new home?

Colin Gay of the Tuscaloosa News noted that Alabama is adding two California cornerbacks in its 2025 recruiting class: five-star Dijon Lee and four-star Chuck McDonald, who played at high school powerhouse Mater Dei High.

“But Calhoun gives Alabama a bit of wiggle room between the two true freshmen as a two-year veteran with three seasons of eligibility, one who has experience as the top bench cornerback,” Gay wrote.

What did Cameron Calhoun do in his one season at Utah?

The 6-foot, 177-pound Calhoun played a vital role in Utah’s secondary during the 2024 season as a redshirt freshman after one year at Michigan.

He was inserted into the lineup in Week 2 against Baylor, after Kenan Johnson’s season-ending injury in the opener.

Calhoun ended up playing in 11 games for the Utes, earning one start.

He had 21 tackles and a tackle for loss during the 5-7 campaign, as well as a team-high nine pass breakups and one interception.

Calhoun also intercepted a two-point conversion attempt against BYU.

The Cincinnati native was the fourth-highest rated defensive player for the Utes this season according to Pro Football Focus, earning an overall grade of 76.3.

He also held opposing receivers to a 48.8 completion percentage when targeted.

Calhoun, who has three years of eligibility remaining, was expected to contend for a starting role in 2025 with starting cornerback Zemaiah Vaughn graduating.

In the time since Calhoun entered the portal, Utah has added commitments from three transfers: Texas A&M’s Donovan Saunders, UC Davis’ Blake Cotton and Garden City Community College’s Jeremiah Caldwell.
