Uintah’s Brody Rhoades had a strong day at the 24th annual Utah All-Star Dual on Wednesday. Rhoades started the day with a win over 2A defending champion Jex Bradshaw from Beaver.

“I feel great,” Rhoades said. “That’s how I wanted the match to go. I just took care of my stuff and that’s all I can do.”

Rhoades took the mat for a second time on Wednesday to take on American Fork’s Tege Kelley. Rhoades took the second win and now looks to Februrary’s state tournament to defend his individual title.

“I feel great about my season so far,” said Rhoades. “There’s one match I wanted to do better in, but I feel like it’s just a process and I’m going to peak at state. This is just a step towards that.”

Another exciting matchup came from the 157 class between Grand’s Austin Paris and Pleasant Grove’s Ian Fritz. Fritz is originally from North Carolina and is signed to Utah Valley University’s wrestling team. Paris got the upper hand on him Wednesday and handed Fritz a 13-9 loss.

In the 285 category, Corner Canyon’s Kaydon Williams and South Summit’s Trayvn Boger had to go to a third overtime before a winner was decided. Williams and Boger both attended last week’s Doc Buchanan tournament in California, where Williams placed fourth and Boger placed second. Both are defending state champions.

It was a close match throughout, but ultimately Williams got the best of Boger.

“I’ve wrestled him before and he’s a tough guy,” said Williams. “I just always wanted to beat him because he’s a good wrestler. I just had to keep pressure and keep him on the ground. I feel like I wrestled well, I could get my conditioning up because I’m tired right now. But I’m feeling great and I’m ready for state.”
