High school boys basketball: RPI rankings Wednesday update — Herriman takes over top spot in 6A

Top teams in 5A, 4A, 3A, 2A and 1A remain unchanged after Tuesday’s games

James has been covering high school sports in Utah for the Deseret News for three decades.

Here’s a look at the daily boys basketball RPI change after Tuesday’s results. The Deseret News will update these rankings and indicate the RPI movement up and down every Wednesday and Saturday throughout region play.

The rankings are pulled the UHSAA website and are dependent on coaches posting the scores on MaxPreps in a timely manner.

Herriman reclaimed the top spot in 6A after Davis lost to Layton in a highly-anticipated Region 1 game on Tuesday.

The top teams in the other classifications stayed the same with Olympus, Green Canyon, Morgan, Kanab and Milford all remaining at No. 1.

The most notable movement after Tuesday’s games came in 5A as East, Viewmont and Spanish Fork all moved up three spots.

Here are the dates for the final RPI rankings release and state tournament bracket reveal by the UHSAA: Class 6A (Feb. 15), Class 5A (Feb. 15), Class 4A (Feb. 8), Class 3A (Feb. 8), Class 2A (Feb. 8) and Class 1A (Feb. 17).

The UHSAA doesn’t provide updates to the rankings on its website once a classification is in the final week of its regular season.
