James has been covering high school sports in Utah for the Deseret News for three decades.

Bountiful snapped its five-year state title drought on Saturday, and in the process added to its own state record.

The Redhawks captured the 5A state championship with a fantastic performance at UVU as they dethroned three-time state champ Viewmont in the process.

Bountiful finished first in the Show and Dance categories, while Viewmont won the Military category.

Viewmont finished second overall, followed by Spanish Fork, Bonneville and Cedar Valley.

The state championship was the 22nd in school history for Bountiful, extending its own state record.
