Fox Sports didn’t need a close game to set a new Super Bowl record.
The family of networks announced Monday that the Philadelphia Eagles' blowout of the Kansas City Chiefs was the most watched Super Bowl of all time.
According to the projections shared by Fox Sports, the average audience size was 126 million. That figure includes people who watched on Fox, Fox Deportes, Tubi, Telemundo or NFL digital properties.
Thanks to the strong performance of Tubi, in particular, Super Bow LIX also set a record for streaming viewership, with around 14.5 million of the 126 million viewers using streaming services to catch the game.
The 2025 Super Bowl ratings are surprising since the game was essentially over by the end of the first half.
The Eagles went into the break with a 24-0 lead, and the Chiefs had just 23 yards of total offense at that point in the game.
The numbers shared by Fox Sports showed that viewership did peak in the second quarter, when around 135.7 million people were tuned in, but most of the viewers did stick around for the second half.
“Generally, televised sporting events see a drop if the margin of victory gets out of hand. An industry source said the game held steady viewership for most of the second half until dropping late in the fourth quarter,” The Athletic reported.
The Athletic noted that Fox likely benefited from the fact that the 2025 Super Bowl featured two highly popular teams.
“There is always significant publicity for every Super Bowl matchup, but this one was boosted by two teams that have been viewership draws in recent years, especially the Chiefs,” the article said. “There is no Chiefs fatigue when it comes to viewership. At least not yet.”
