Lone Peak High’s boys golf team narrowly edged Corner Canyon at the fourth annual Utah High School Invitational in Magna on Friday afternoon.

Lone Peak tallied 280 points in the 12-team event to edge 6A rival Corner Canyon by one stroke at the Copper Golf Club. Herriman finished third at 296 while Spanish Fork was fourth with a 302.

Corner Canyon has beaten Lone Peak in the 6A state tournament each of the past two seasons.

The Copper Golf Club is a nine-hole course, with golfers playing each nine holes twice. It played from the white tees the first nine, and the blue tees the second nine.

Corner Canyon’s Ben Wilson was the low golfer on Friday, shooting a 65 to edge Lone Peak’s Blake Brown who shot a 66. Viewmont’s Corver Barnes finished third with a 68.

Wilson finished third at last year’s 6A state tournament behind seniors Kihei Akina of Lone Peak and Bowen Mauss of Corner Canyon. Wilson will be one of the 6A favorites this season.
