For the first time in his career, Jamaal Williams has been absent from NFL training camp — though that may not last for much longer.

The BYU product and ninth-year running back has garnered interest from a pair of teams over the past few days, according to ESPN insider Adam Schefter.

Williams reportedly worked out with the Chicago Bears on Saturday and is now working out with the Miami Dolphins on Monday, per Schefter.

Both Chicago and Miami already have featured backs set in stone, so Williams’ potential supporting role with either team would likely entail short yardage and goal-line situations similar to how he was used by the New Orleans Saints over the past two seasons.

Should Williams be signed in the coming days, he would join a group of 18 other fellow former Cougars in NFL training camps. If he did in fact sign with Miami, he would be teammates with former BYU quarterback Zach Wilson, who is currently the Dolphins’ QB2.

In eight seasons with the Green Bay Packers, Detroit Lions and New Orleans Saints, Williams has rushed for 4,122 yards with 32 touchdowns, along with racking up 1,310 yards through the air with eight additional receiving scores.

His best campaign came with the Lions in 2022, where he ran for 1,066 yards — the most ever for a former BYU player in a single season — and led the NFL with 17 rushing touchdowns.

A fourth-round draft selection in 2017, Williams left BYU after four seasons as the school’s all-time leading rusher with 3,901 yards, running for 1,375 yards and 12 touchdowns as a senior in 2016.
