Taylor Swift and her boyfriend Travis Kelce broke the internet Wednesday night when Swift appeared on Kelce’s podcast.
During her appearance on “New Heights,” which Kelce hosts with his brother Jason, Swift announced her new album, “The Life of a Showgirl.”
While Swift discussed her new album, The Eras Tour, her relationship with Kelce and her new sourdough hobby, Swift devoted five minutes to discussing former BYU offensive lineman and current Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, as the Deseret News previously reported.
Here’s what Swift said about Reid.
What Taylor Swift said about Andy Reid on ‘New Heights’
On Sept. 24, 2023, Swift attended her first Chiefs game to watch Kelce play. Following the Chiefs’ win over the Chicago Bears, Reid was asked about Swift and Kelce, per a video on NFL.com.
“I’ve met her before,” Reid said. “I set them up.”
During Wednesday’s “New Heights” episode, Jason Kelce asked his brother and Swift if that was actually the case.
“Whatever Andy Reid says, we’re going to stand by,” Swift said. “He says it, that’s what happened.”
Swift later noted that several people who knew Travis Kelce reached out to her to vouch for the tight end, one of which may or may not have been Reid.
The three-time Super Bowl-winning head coach became friends with Swift’s father while Reid coached the Philadelphia Eagles in Swift’s home state of Pennsylvania.
“He knows Andy. Andy’s been going to shows for years,” Swift said. “I’ve always had a positive vibe about Andy Reid. I didn’t know what the sports were that he was doing, but I knew that he was my dad’s friend Andy Reid.”
Since she started dating Kelce, Swift has come to know how prominent of a figure Reid is in the NFL.
“I now know that he is literally the most iconic, legendary coach of all time. And from the way you talk about him, his leadership style, I respect it so much because I feel like it’s done without aggression or raising your voice or losing your composure. It’s all very composed and focused,” she said.
Travis Kelce added that Reid can “rip you apart” when it’s deserved.
“There’s validity to it. There’s such a genuine ‘want to get better’ that him getting you to do it the right way is, it’s like a disciplinary thing,” Kelce said. “He wouldn’t be doing it unless he saw the greatness in you or he saw your ability to get it right.”
Swift noted that that shows Reid has a lot of “heart.”
“He’s funny. He’s cheeky. But it’s like everything has a reason,” she said. “Everything is intentional. He coaches and lives in a very intentional way, which I think is really awesome and I think is a great leadership style.”
Swift said Reid’s leadership style makes him a “huge role model.”
“He’s a huge role model for that, how he motivates people without flying off the handle and is just very focused on what the right thing is at the right moment,” she said.
What Andy Reid said about Taylor Swift’s ‘New Heights’ appearance
Reid was asked by reporters Wednesday if he was going to tune into the podcast that evening.
“No, but listen, I’m like really old,” Reid said. “My grandkids will be all over it.”
Reid then shared his support for Swift and Kelce’s relationship.
“I’m happy for them. Both of them like each other and what a plus that is. They care about each other, and I think that’s the most important thing,” he said. “The older you get, you want these guys to have somebody they can settle down with and that whole deal, and so, I think it’s a neat deal for them.”
