Brock Harris, Pine View (Sr.)

A recent BYU commit, Pine View’s Brock Harris had a monster game in the opening game of the high school football season last week.

The tight end caught five passes for 159 yards and three touchdowns from quarterback Levi Shaw in a wild 51-45 win over Manti in a game that ended just before midnight after a two-hour weather delay to start the game.

“Brock is such a unique young man. He works as hard as anyone in the country and he expects a lot of himself. He holds himself accountable and leads by example,” said Pine View coach KJ Boyer.

Harris is the second-highest ranked senior in the state of Utah according to 247 Sports, and the fifth ranked tight end in the country.

Before committing to BYU in April, Harris had narrowed his finalists down to Michigan, Georgia, Miami, Oregon and Utah.

Girls Volleyball

Paige Butler, West Field (Sr.)

West Field has gotten off to a strong 2-0 start to the season this fall, and the leadership and play of senior outside hitter Paige Butler is a big reason why.

She leads the Longhorns with a .295 hitting percentage with 17 goals and a team-high 24 digs.

“Paige is a player I can always count on. She will always give 100% every single play in a match and in practice. She is coachable and has phenomenal ball control. She is our team captain and is such an outstanding leader,” said West Field coach Jantzen Smith. “She pumps up her teammates and keeps team morale high. She goes out of her way to make sure all 27 of her teammates feel important and loved. She is an essential part of our program at West Field.”

Butler tallied seven kills with a .300 hitting percentage in last Tuesday’s 3-0 sweep of Davis, and then two nights later she racked up 10 kills in a 3-2 win over Weber.

Girl Soccer

Lottie Smith, Snow Canyon (Sr.)

Coming off a strong junior season in which she led Snow Canyon to a 16-3 record and a 4A semifinal appearance, Lottie Smith is back to her goal-scoring ways this season.

Throughout four games, Smith has notched seven goals for the 3-1 Warriors to go along with her two assists.

“Lottie Smith is an excellent person and leader. She works hard to lift her teammates up on and off the field. Her goal scoring prowess is undeniable and she has contributed to successful Snow Canyon soccer teams for four years now,” said Snow Canyon coach Connor Brown.

In Snow Canyon’s lone game last week, she scored a pair of second-half goals in a 2-1 win over 6A’s Farmington.

A year ago Smith notched 13 goals and five assists, and she’s well on her way to eclipsing that tally this year.

Boys Cross Country

Logan Rohatinsky, Maple Mountain (Jr.)

Junior Logan Rohatinsky opened the 2025 season with an impressive showing for Maple Mountain last weekend.

Running in the Pre-Region 7 meet at Spanish Fork Sports Park, Rohatinsky ran away from the 5k field winning by 23 seconds as he finishing with a time of 15:28.89.

“In addition to Logan’s work ethic and drive, one of the other things that helps make Logan great is the genuine enjoyment and excitement he feels for his family, his teammates, and his friends throughout the distance running community,” said Maple Mountain coach Brett Andrus. “His strong relationships with them and celebrations of their success help inspire him to be curious about his own abilities as he seeks to find the limits of what is possible within this sport. We are all excited to watch his journey.”

As a sophomore last season, Rohatinsky finished in 12th place at the 5A state meet at Sugarhouse Park and was the highest-placing sophomore in the field.

Girls Cross Country

Brooklyn Tarr, Mountain Ridge (Sr.)

One meet into the season and Mountain Ridge senior Brooklyn Tarr already has a win under her belt.

In the 13-team Freber Classic at Fremont High School last Saturday, Tarr bested the field of 119 runners winning the race with a time of 18:23.82. Weber’s Catherine Wald finished second, three seconds behind Tarr.

Tarr won the same meet last season as well.

“Brooklyn is a kind and sweet young woman, but she is a competitor. Her work ethic and consistency is her great strength, and she will show up on race day,” said Mountain Ridge coach James Barnes.

Tarr heads into her final high school season looking to improve upon her 33rd finish at last year’s 6A state meet, and wins like Saturdays definitely help toward that goal.

Girls Tennis

Kamryn Newman, Bingham (So.)

Last year’s 6A first singles runner-up, Kamryn Newman seems poised for even greater things this season.

Newman is a perfect 7-0 in first singles play this season, which includes a three-set win over Green Canyon’s Tori Jeppson last weekend. Jeppson was the 4A second singles runner-up last season.

“Kam is an incredible tennis player. She has a very level head and keeps her composure in even the toughest matches. She will just keep getting the ball back and waits patiently for her shots. Not only is she a great player but a great teammate. Anyone that knows Kam loves her. She truly is the kindest person on the court. She is positive, fun and supportive,” said Bingham coach Lorin Brown.

As a freshman last season, Newman went 21-1 in first singles play, with her lone loss coming in the 6A final to Skyridge’s Bella Lewis.

Boys Golf

Ty Cottle, Bountiful (Sr.)

Senior Ty Cottle started the fall season out with a bang last week.

Cottle shot a 66 in the opening Region 6 meet of the season at Bountiful Ridge Golf Course, winning by three strokes ahead of Olympus’ Will Pederson and Skyline’s Austin Shelley.

It’s the type of performance that will put him right in the thick of the 5A medalist conversation this fall if he can maintain it over the next two months.

“I think one of the best attributes Ty has is his hard work and dedication to his golf game. He is off to great start this season with his win at our first tournament at Bountiful Ridge, shooting 66. I look forward to seeing some more great scores from him this season,” said Bountiful coach Kurt Bosen.

A year ago in Region 5 play, Cottle finished tied for sixth with a 72 stroke average. He had a great state meet though finishing tied for fifth with a two-day 6-under at Glen Eagle Golf Course.

Baseball

Jared Visage, Utah Military Hill Field (Sr.)

Just four games into the season, senior Jared Visage has just about equaled all of his production at the plate from a year ago.

View Comments

He’s led the T-Birds to a 4-0 record as he’s hit .500 in 14 plate appearances with one double, one home run, seven RBIs and 10 runs scored. A year ago he had three total extra base hits and eight RBIs.

“He embodies everything you want in a ballplayer and a leader. He’s consistently productive both at the plate and in the field, and he plays the game with energy and respect — toward his teammates, umpires and opponents alike,” said Utah Military Hill Field coach Brett Olsen.

“Jared has a way of making friends everywhere we go. But most importantly, he leads like a true captain should, by example. He’s the hardest worker on the team, sets the standard for others to follow, and I trust him completely to always do what’s best for the team.”

A year ago he hit .273 as the T-Birds notched a 6-10 record.
