A postgame fight between a father and son Saturday in Dublin, Ireland, drew arguably as much attention — or more — than the Iowa State-Kansas State football game that preceded it, at least in part because of who the father and son were.

Mark Johnson and Anthony Johnson, father and brother of Kansas State starting quarterback Avery Johnson, were filmed in a physical altercation following the Kansas State-Iowa State game held at Aviva Stadium.

Footage posted on social media showed Johnson and Johnson fighting each other on the wet pavement, with Mark Johnson pinning Anthony Johnson to the ground, while nearby bystanders said, “Anthony this is embarrassing,” and “It’s over, it’s over.”

No arrests were made in the aftermath of the incident, 247Sports reported, and at least one eyewitness to the event “is tied to Kansas State athletics.”

The father-son pair released a joint statement Sunday, through On3 Sports, apologizing for their public family feud on foreign soil.

“We sincerely apologize for our actions following yesterday’s football game in Ireland. Senseless bickering escalated into an unnecessary fight,” the statement from Mark and Anthony Johnson reads.

“We have resolved our differences and take full responsibility for our actions. We have apologized to our immediate and extended family, and now extend our apologies to Kansas State University, its alumni, and fans. We regret this incident, have learned from it, and are committed to ensuring it doesn’t happen again. Please accept our deepest apologies.”

Iowa State won the game, 24-21.
