It wasn’t always easy, but in the end Skyridge was able to take care of business against Pleasant Grove, winning in straight sets: 25-19, 25-18, 25-17.

Skyridge has lost just one set so far this season, something head coach Siale Hifo contributes a lot to the veteran experience throughout her team.

“We have a real heavy senior team,” Hifo said. “We’ve got some big hitters and some big blockers. A lot of it is really about serving and passing. The serving game has been really good to help us win games and I think we’re doing that well right now.”

While Skyridge was able to take every set of the match, Pleasant Grove was tough and feisty. They stayed within arm’s reach the whole time.

Pleasant Grove took the lead at the beginning of each set, but whenever it looked like they could go on a possible run, Skyridge showcased their dominance with both their service game and their passing.

“Pleasant Grove is a really well-coached team,” Hifo said. “Their middles had great swings and they serve well, too. I loved that we were able to fight back and make sure that we’re doing the right things and not let it get to us too much.”

The momentum from the previous two sets carried over into the third. Pleasant Grove started the third set on an 8-3 run. Not to be outdone, Skyridge responded immediately with an 8-3 run of their own.

A string of mini runs as the set went on propelled Skyridge to victory.

“I thought we came out strong,” Hifo said. “We’ve been working on some things in practice, and I saw the girls pull them out in the game, so that made me pretty happy. I like that we’re swinging high and deep and we’re getting a lot of success right now from our serves. All of the things we have been working on in the game, it’s nice to see it come to fruition in the games, see them play together as a team and have fun.”

With the win, Skyridge remains undefeated and moves their record to a perfect 5-0. The loss drops Pleasant Grove to 1-5.
