Each week, the Deseret News collects high school football stats from around the state, with approximately 85% of the coaches submitting their offensive and defensive stats.
Here’s a look at some headliner performances from Week 2. Also check out the Deseret News’ complete sortable leaders feature for offense, defense and special teams.
Class 6A
Tyler Messer, Herriman — In what proved to be limited work in a blowout, Herriman’s QB rushed the ball six times for 126 yards and two touchdowns while also passing for another score in a 50-3 rout of Desert Hills.
Bosten Fountaine, Westlake — Had a career day completing 26 of 41 passes for 478 yards and five touchdowns to lead the Thunder to a 45-12 rout over Pleasant Grove.
Malik Sika, Westlake — The junior hauled in 15 receptions for 327 yards — the second-most in state history for a single game — and two touchdowns in the big win over Pleasant Grove.
Josh Harris, Corner Canyon — Tallied 12 tackles and two interceptions as the Chargers traveled to Florida for the easy 38-13 win over West Broward, Florida.
Class 5A
Easton Eilertson, West Field — The sophomore completed 19 of 30 passes for 282 yards and five touchdowns to power the Longhorns to a 46-37 win over Skyline.
Ashton Nord, Wasatch — Started the game off by recording a safety, and then finished off the scoring in the fourth quarter with a 48-yard pick-six as Wasatch methodically pulled away from Cyprus for the 27-0 win.
Judah Valle, Brighton — Had a monster game on the ground with 33 carries for 235 yards and five touchdowns as the Bengals rallied from an early deficit for the 38-31 win over Weber.
Uli Figiel, Granger — Hauled in six catches for 195 yards and three touchdowns, and he also returned a kickoff 95 yards for another score in leading the Lancers to the 54-19 road win at Logan.
Viliami Tapa’atoutai, Woods Cross — Powered Woods Cross to the 35-23 win over Cedar Valley as he carried the ball 18 times for 164 yards and three touchdowns.
Class 4A
Brayden Larsen, Mountain Crest — Completed 14 of 20 passes for five touchdowns and also rushed for 75 more yards to lead the way in the Mustangs’ easy 62-8 win over Uintah.
Van Dailey, Crimson Cliffs — Rushed the ball 22 times for 203 yards and three touchdowns, including the game-winning score as time expired, as the Mustangs beat Provo 28-24.
Brighton Reutzel, Stansbury — Completed 18 of 26 passes for 267 yards and five touchdowns, and also rushed for a score to lead the Stallions past Bonneville 53-20.
Dylan Gabriel, Hurricane — Passed for one score and rushed for three more, finishing with 218 yards of total offense in leading the Tigers past Moapa Valley, Nevada 35-28.
Class 3A
Dallan Van Vliet, Grantsville — Completed 19 of 28 passes for 196 yards and three TDs and also rushed for another score in the Cowboys’ lopsided 32-0 win over Richfield.
Slade Parsons, Cedar — Caught five passes for 140 yards and three touchdowns as the Reds rolled past former region foe Pine View 50-34.
Stone Mortensen, Manti — Contributed on both sides of the ball in the 65-7 win over Juan Diego as he scored on a 35-yard TD reception and then a 25-yard interception return for a touchdown — both in the second quarter less than two minutes apart.
Class 2A
Cooper Castle, South Sevier — Caught seven passes for 147 yards and three touchdowns and also rushed for another 110 yards and a score in leading South Sevier to the 52-12 win over Enterprise. He added seven tackles defensively as well.
Ian Mair, South Summit — Completed 20 of 30 passes for 340 yards and four touchdowns, and also rushed for another score to lead the Wildcats to the 35-13 win over North Summit.
Class 1A
Hayden Gubler, Kanab — Only had nine offensive touches, but made the most of them with 215 yards of total offense and four touchdowns (three rushing, one receiving) in the 36-0 win over North Sevier.
Davin Orton, Beaver — Carried the ball 31 times for 147 yards and three touchdowns and also passed for another score as Beaver edged San Juan 33-30 in a showdown of No. 1s in 1A and 2A.
