Final

Utah 43, UCLA 10

Utah’s new era of football brought with it plenty of electricity.

The Utes, behind a new-look offense spearheaded by Devon Dampier, rolled to a 43-10 victory over the UCLA Bruins late Saturday night.

Utah scored on its first three possessions and on six of its first seven drives overall in hammering the hometown Bruins.

The Utes put up 492 yards of total offense, led by Dampier, who had 206 passing yards with two passing touchdowns to go with 87 rushing yards and a rushing score.

The Utah defense, meanwhile, shut down UCLA and Nico Iamaleava nearly the entire night, holding the Bruins to 220 total yards.

Fourth quarter

Utah 43, UCLA 10

6:29 — The Utes cashed in on their first takeaway of the year, as NaQuari Rogers scored his first touchdown as a Ute on a 1-yard run. Utah 43, UCLA 10.

Utah started the drive inside the UCLA 30 after Trey Reynolds intercepted Nico Iamaleava and returned it 20 yards to the Bruins 29.

10:05 — Utah has been another score on the board, and this one is all but over.

Devon Dampier led an 81-yard touchdown drive this time, and he capped it with his second touchdown pass of the game on a 2-yarder to Dallen Bentley.

While Utah missed a two-point attempt that would have made it a 28-point game, it’s still the Utes well in control at Utah 36, UCLA 10.

Utah has scored on six of its seven drives tonight.

Third quarter

Utah 30, UCLA 10

2:50 — The Utes are back out to a 20-point lead.

Devon Dampier led a 20-play, 80-yard drive before the dual-threat QB took it the final 2 yards on a fourth-and-goal run that gives him his first rushing touchdown as a Ute. Utah 30, UCLA 10.

The Utes converted four third downs on the drive and are 11 of 13 on third downs so far in this game.

That score forces the Bruins to get something going soon.

12:38 — The Bruins answered Utah’s end-of-half field goal with one of their own, as Mateen Bhaghani nailed a 46-yarder on the first drive of the second half. Utah 23, UCLA 10.

UCLA drove 47 yards before the drive stalled, as an incompletion on third-and-4 at the Utah 28 forced the field-goal attempt.

Halftime

Utah 23, UCLA 7

The Utes look completely different with Devon Dampier at quarterback.

Dampier completed 10 of 13 passes for 92 yards and a touchdown while also rushing for 78 yards on 13 carries during the first half, pacing a Utah offense that scored on four of its five first-half possessions.

Outside of one touchdown drive, Utah’s defense has largely locked down UCLA’s Nico Iamaleava and the Bruins offense. The Utes had 256 yards of total offense to 134 for UCLA.

Second quarter

Utah 23, UCLA 7

0:00 — That’s a way for Utah to show off its shiny new kicker.

Dillon Curtis drilled a 54-yard field goal to end the half, giving Utah a 16-point lead going into the break as the freshman made his first-ever attempt as a Ute. Utah 23, UCLA 7.

The Utes moved the ball 34 yards to get into field goal territory in just over a minute.

6:46 — UCLA finally has a response.

The Bruins drove 75 yards and converted a fourth down along the way before scoring their first touchdown on a 19-yard touchdown pass from Nico Iamaleava to Anthony Woods, the former Utah running back. Utah 20, UCLA 7.

Iamaleava helped jumpstart that drive with a 21-yard carry that pushed UCLA into Utah territory.

12:44 — This new Utah offense is a lot of fun — and is proving unstoppable for UCLA.

Devon Dampier found Lander Barton for the 14-yard touchdown pass, the second straight touchdown for two-way defender. Utah 20, UCLA 0.

It’s the first touchdown pass for Dampier as a Ute.

Utah marched 49 yards in just five plays, as Dampier used a pair of keepers to pick up 17 yards to jumpstart the drive.

First quarter

Utah 13, UCLA 0

1:25 — Make that two touchdowns on two possessions for the Utes.

This time, Smith Snowden shook off a tackle attempt in the backfield on a third-down carry, then ran 8 yards for a touchdown. With the PAT, it’s Utah 13, UCLA 0.

Snowden already has three receptions for 26 yards and two carries for 12 yards as the Utes’ version of Travis Hunter.

Another defender, Jackson Bennee, also caught a 17-yard pass on the drive, and Devon Dampier is making even 2-yard gains super entertaining.

10:49 — The first taste of the Jason Beck offense led by Devon Dampier was a rousing success. The Utes took their first drive of the season 75 yards before Wayshawn Parker scored from 13 yards out. The PAT was no good. Utah 6, UCLA 0.
