Lone Peak won the inaugural Black Desert High School Invitational this past weekend at Black Desert Golf Course in Southern Utah.
Playing from the black tees, Lone Peak shot a two-day team score of 564 (12-under), to edge The Woodlands out of Houston, Texas, which shot a 567.
Those were the only two programs to shoot under par as a team.
“Happy for the boys and the program. They had to play well to win and even not at our best they battled and finished. Great field and so grateful to Black Desert Golf Resort and to the PGA officials that came down to be our rules officials,” said Lone Peak coach Derek Farr.
Bolles, Fla. finished third with a 587, followed by Olympus and Skyline who tied with 596.
Rounding out the eight-team field were Columbus, Fla. in sixth (605), Herriman in seventh (623) and Rockport, Ill. in eighth (655)
Lone Peak sophomore Blake Brown won the individual title with a 10-under 134, as he shot a 64 on Friday and then a 70 on Saturday. His 64 on Friday was the best round of either day by four strokes.
Olympus’ Will Pederson finished second with a 6-under 138 as he carded a 70 on Friday and a 68 on Saturday.
A pair of Lone Peak teammates, Noah Goeckeritz and Ryder Huish, tied for third at 3-under, while Tripp Depoy from The Woodlands and Austin Shelley of Skyline tied for fifth at 2-under.
Black Desert Golf Course hosted a PGA Tour event last fall as part of the FedExCup Fall series, the first PGA Tour event in Utah since 1963.
The event returns to Utah this Oct. 23-26 and has been renamed the Bank of Utah Championship.
