One day after dismantling FCS Cal Poly, Utah took a big jump in the Associated Press rankings.

The Utes jumped five spots to No. 20 in the AP poll released Sunday with 361 points following their 63-9 win that moved them to 2-0 on the young season.

Rival BYU, after a late-night 27-3 win over Stanford, fell one spot among the other teams receiving votes that find themselves outside the top 25. The Cougars are two spots out of the top 25, at No. 27.

Just ahead of them is Arizona State, with the Sun Devils at 94 points and BYU at 92.

Arizona State lost a 24-20 heartbreaker on the road at Mississippi State. The defending Big 12 champions, who entered the week as the Big 12’s highest-ranked team at No. 12 in the AP poll, trailed 17-0 before rallying to take a 20-17 lead with under two minutes to play, only to give up a 58-yard touchdown with 30 seconds remaining.

Iowa State is now the highest ranked Big 12 team at No. 14 in the AP rankings, moving up two spots after edging rival Iowa 16-13 to stay unbeaten at 3-0.

Texas Tech, which rolled to its second straight win of the year by beating Kent State 62-14, moved up three spots to No. 21 in the poll.

The top 5 in the AP rankings saw one change. The top three stayed the same, with Ohio State at No. 1, Penn State at No. 2 and LSU at No. 3. Oregon jumped two spots to No. 4 after routing Oklahoma State 69-3, while Miami stayed put at No. 5.

Georgia fell two spots from No. 4 to No. 6 after a closer than expected win over Austin Peay.

Utah also leapfrogged BYU in the LBM Coaches poll, jumping from one spot out of the rankings last week to No. 21 following Week 2’s action.

The Cougars, meanwhile, stayed put at No. 25.

Other Big 12 teams in the coaches rankings include Iowa State at No. 14, Texas Tech at No. 20 and Arizona State at No. 24.

The coaches top 5 stayed the same and includes Ohio State at No. 1, Penn State at No. 2, Georgia at No. 3, LSU at No. 4 and Oregon at No. 5.
