For the first time in school history, Utah has released an injury report.
As part of a Big 12 conference mandate, all 16 league teams are required to produce “player availability” reports for conference games.
Injury reports are released in the evenings of Wednesday, Thursday and Friday for Saturday Big 12 matchups. A final injury report will be distributed 90 minutes before kickoff — in Utah’s case, at 7:30 a.m. MT on Saturday.
Here’s who is listed on Utah and Texas Tech’s first injury report of the season:
Utah

- Daidren Zipperer, WR (out for season)
- Rabbit Evans, S (out for season)

Coach Kyle Whittingham’s longstanding policy was to provide injury updates if a player was out for the season, though he would occasionally provide updates even if an injury wasn’t season-ending.
Whittingham guarded injury information in an effort to give Utah a competitive advantage, but has long said that he’s fine with divulging that information as long as every other team has to do the same.
Utah did a test run of the injury reporting process internally during the Utes’ three nonconference games.
Whittingham says Utah’s training staff will fill out the daily injury reports.
“I’m not a doctor. I wouldn’t make those decisions, who plays, who doesn’t, who’s doubtful, questionable, all that stuff. But the trainer will have that out,” Whittingham said.
