BYU was a benefactor of a weekend where several top 25 teams lost, including a pair of top 10 schools to unranked opponents.

The Cougars, who beat West Virginia 38-24 on Friday night, moved up in the national rankings after moving to 5-0 on the season.

BYU (5-0, 2-0 Big 12) climbed five spots to No. 18 in the latest Associated Press rankings with 463 points, while the Cougars moved up five spots to No. 18 in the US LBM Coaches poll with 453 points.

Utah (4-1, 1-1 Big 12), which had a bye this week, stayed just outside the AP top 25 and fell from No. 25 to one spot outside the top 25 in the US LBM Coaches poll.

The Utes had 84 points in the AP rankings, four spots away from a top 25 position, and 134 points in the US LBM Coaches poll, 29 short of No. 25 Memphis.

Which Big 12 teams are ranked following Week 6?

There are four total Big 12 teams in the national top 25 rankings this week, including BYU.

Texas Tech (5-0, 2-0 Big 12), after going on the road and handing Houston its first loss of the season at 35-11, jumped into the top 10 for the first time this season. The Red Raiders moved up two spots to No. 9 in the AP poll and four spots in the US LBM Coaches rankings to No. 10.

Defending Big 12 champion Arizona State (4-1, 2-0 Big 12), which like Utah was idle this week, moved up three spots to No. 21 in the AP rankings and one spot to No. 23 in the US LCM Coaches poll.

The Utes host the Sun Devils on Saturday. The game will kick off at 8:15 p.m. MDT and will be televised on ESPN.

Iowa State (5-1, 2-1 Big 12), meanwhile, dropped in the polls after falling 38-30 at Cincinnati. The Cyclones fell eight spots to No. 22 in the AP poll and nine to No. 21 in the US LBM Coaches rankings.

In addition to Utah, Cincinnati and TCU are receiving votes in both major national rankings. The Bearcats, after upsetting Iowa State, are one spot out of the top 25 in the AP rankings, 18 points behind No. 25 Florida State.

There was quite a bit of movement in the polls this week, with five ranked teams losing, those not as much int he top 5 spots.

In the AP poll, Ohio State stayed No. 1, Miami jumped one spot to No. 2 after beating previously top 20 Florida State, idle Oregon fell one spot to No. 3, idle Ole Miss stayed put at No. 4 and Texas A&M leapfrogged Oklahoma to land at No. 5 this week.

The top 5 in the US LBM Coaches poll, meanwhile, stayed the same, with Ohio State at No. 1, Oregon at No. 2, Miami at No. 3, Ole Miss at No. 4 and Texas A&M at No. 5.

With losses to unranked UCLA and Florida, previously top 10 programs Penn State and Texas tumbled down the rankings.

The Nittany Lions fell out of the AP top 25 altogether and 16 spots to No. 22 in the US LBM Coaches poll, while the Longhorns also fell out of the AP rankings and dropped 12 spots to No. 19 in the Coaches poll.
