BYU quarterback commit Ryder Lyons faced some adversity going into halftime when Folsom High faced rival Oak Ridge High last Friday in northern California high school action.
Lyons and the Bulldogs trailed 9-7 at the break in a matchup of the top two teams in the CIF San-Joaquin Section after Oak Ridge controlled the tempo.
The five-star rated talent, though, helped lead Folsom to a 28-9 victory as the Bulldogs took over in the second half and got things rolling.

That allowed Folsom to extend its winning streak to 24 games over 19 seasons against Oak Ridge, according to The Sacramento Bee.
For the first time since the team’s second game of the year, Lyons — who has been dealing with an ankle injury in recent weeks — threw four touchdown passes. He completed 19 of 28 passes for 304 yards and four touchdowns in the win, according to MaxPreps.
“We were sloppy in the first half, especially me,” Lyons told Gold Country Media. “It’s kind of my first game back being healthy and I need and the team needs to play better. It was a good win, though. Everyone on this team has got a job to do and we just have to do our jobs better.”
Lyons tossed touchdown throws of 43 yards to Isaiah Williams and 38 yards to Rob Larson, whom BYU has also offered, during the third quarter to build a 21-9 lead, and midway through the fourth, he completed an 84-yard touchdown to Jason Hill Jr., according to the Bee.
Lyons’ other touchdown pass of the day went to Ole Miss commit Jameson Powell, who caught a 15-yard score in the second quarter, per the Bee.
“It was hard for us to get into rhythm in the first half,” Folsom coach Paul Doherty told Gold Country Media. “Oak Ridge drops eight guys into coverage and got a couple sacks and got us into negative down and distance and then we also had a few uncharacteristic dropped passes.
“At halftime, we just told them that we’ve got to play better. We’ve got minimal opportunities and we have to maximize those opportunities with minimal mistakes.”
Up next for Folsom is a Del Oro squad that is 4-2 on the year and ranked No. 7 in MaxPreps’ CIF San-Joaquin Section rankings.
