Run, run, run.

That’s what Utah did in sprinting past No. 21 Arizona State to a convincing victory over the defending Big 12 champions.

That sends the Utes into next week’s rivalry game with BYU with a 5-1 record and a 2-1 Big 12 mark. The Cougars stayed unbeaten at 6-0 (3-0 in Big 12) after rallying for a double-overtime win over Arizona Saturday night.

Devon Dampier led an offensive rushing attack for Utah that netted 276 yards against an ASU defense that entered the night giving up just 78.2 rushing yards per game.

Dampier ran for 120 yards and three touchdowns on 10 carries for a 12.0-per carry average.

Wayshawn Parker (55 yards), NaQuari Rogers (48 yards, two touchdowns) and Daniel Bray (41 yards) also had strong nights on the ground as Utah put up 412 yards of total offense while holding Arizona State to 259.

The Utes’ backup quarterback scored on a 4-yard run for Utah’s sixth rushing touchdown of the night. Utah 42, Arizona State 10.

Third quarter

Utah 35, Arizona State 10

0:45 — Devon Dampier is running wild.

Dampier scored his third rushing touchdown of the night, this time from 9 yards out. Utah 35, Arizona State 10.

He’s over 100 rushing yards on the night, becoming the first Utah quarterback to run for 100 yards in a game since Travis Wilson did it against Oregon in 2015.

4:32 — It took a 13-play, 75-yard drive, but Arizona State finally found the end zone.

The Sun Devils scored their first touchdown of the night on a 4-yard Jordyn Tyson run, one snap after Utah gave up a first down with a delay of game penalty on a fourth-and-1. Utah 28, Arizona State 10.

11:00 — This one is a rout.

After a 56-yard pass to Ryan Davis got Utah into the red zone, NaQuari Rogers scored his second rushing touchdown of the night on a 2-yard carry, taking a late pitch from Devon Dampier before strolling into the corner of the end zone. Utah 28, Arizona State 3.

Utah 21, Arizona State 3

The Utes are off and running against the Sun Devils.

Utah rushed for 183 yards in the first half, more than double what Arizona State has been giving up in a game — and there’s still two quarters to go.

Devon Dampier has 87 of those rushing yards on seven carries — a 12.4-per carry average — and has two rushing touchdowns.

NaQuari Rogers also scored on a rushing touchdown late in the first half to give the Utes the 21-3 edge going into the break.

Second quarter

On the ensuing possession after the blocked field goal, NaQuari Rogers scored on a 22-yard run and Utah is running the ball at will against the Sun Devils. Utah 21, Arizona State 3.

3:05 — Utah denied a prime Arizona State scoring chance, as Jackson Bennee blocked a Jesus Gomez 29-yard field goal attempt.

The Utes will get the ball back with an opportunity to build on their 11-point lead late in the first half.

Dampier scampered in from 24 yards out for his second rushing touchdown of the game, capitalizing on solid field position on a 59-yard drive. Utah 14, Arizona State 3.

Dampier already has 45 rushing yards in the game.

The Sun Devils converted two fourth-down attempts on a 54-yard drive before a holding penalty stalled them and forced a 38-yard field goal from Jesus Gomez. Utah 7, Arizona State 3.
