No. 17 Westlake at No. 1 Lone Peak
The road to a potential third consecutive state championship begins Tuesday as No. 1 seed Lone Peak Knights host No. 17 Westlake Thunder in the second round of the 6A girls soccer playoffs, continuing a one-sided rivalry that has seen the Knights win 25 straight matches against the Thunder.
After claiming the title last season with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Davis, Lone Peak (15-1-1) enters the playoffs as the clear favorite once again. The Knights have been dominant throughout 2025, outscoring opponents 55-8 while averaging 3.2 goals per game and allowing just 0.5.
Westlake (7-12) hasn’t defeated Lone Peak since a 3-2 victory in 2013. The closest the Thunder came to breaking the streak was in 2020, when a playoff matchup was decided by penalties, with Lone Peak prevailing on the seventh shooter.
The Knights’ high-powered offense features a balanced attack led by Kate Fuller (15 goals, 10 assists), with strong contributions from Ivy Harding and Macie Leavitt, who have each tallied nine goals and seven assists. Defensively, goalkeeper Eliza Collings has been nearly impenetrable with 9.5 shutouts.
Westlake enters the match with momentum after upsetting Bingham 2-0 in the first round. The Thunder are paced by senior Kennedy Prestwich, who ranks fourth among 6A scorers with 14 goals and five assists.
The Thunder will need contributions from supporting players like Marlee Hunter (7 goals) and CC Malohifo’ou (5 goals, 2 assists) if they hope to advance. Westlake has struggled with consistency this season, averaging 1.8 goals per game while conceding 2.4.
Westlake advanced to the second round with a 2-0 first round win over Bingham last Thursday.
The winner of this matchup will advance to face either No. 8 Copper Hills or No. 9 Herriman in the quarterfinals.
No. 9 Herriman at No. 8 Copper Hills
After splitting their regular season matchups, Region 2 rivals No. 8 Copper Hills and No. 9 Herriman will settle the score when they face off in Tuesday’s 6A second-round playoff clash.
Copper Hills (13-5) has dominated the series recently, winning five of the past six meetings between the schools, but Herriman (12-6) broke through with a 1-0 victory on Sept. 9 before the Grizzlies responded with a convincing 2-0 win in their Oct. 2 rematch.
The Grizzlies feature 6A’s leading scorer Camila Palafox, who enters the postseason with 23 goals and 7 assists. She’s supported by Anna Hendrix (12 goals, 7 assists) and Josephine Cannon (9 goals, 12 assists) in a Copper Hills attack that has tallied 55 goals this season.
Herriman counters with their own offensive threats in Halle Willardson (12 goals, 2 assists) and Brooke Rasmussen, whose 15 assists lead all 6A players. Goalkeeper Peyton Irish has recorded 6.5 shutouts this season.
Copper Hills advanced to the second round after a thrilling shootout victory over Riverton, prevailing 5-4 in penalties following a 2-2 draw. The Grizzlies have averaged 3.1 goals per game while conceding 1.8.
Herriman’s defense has been a strength all season, allowing just 18 goals in 18 matches (1.0 per game) while scoring 2.3 goals per contest. The Mustangs will look to continue their strong defensive play against one of 6A’s most potent attacks.
The winner will advance to the quarterfinals to face the winner of Lone Peak vs. Westlake.
No. 13 Riverton at No. 4 Mountain Ridge, 4 p.m.
Seeking to build on last year’s state semifinal run, four-time defending Region 2 champion Mountain Ridge hosts familiar foe Riverton in Tuesday’s 6A state playoff second round.
Mountain Ridge (14-4) has edged Riverton in two tightly contested matches this season – a 2-1 overtime thriller on Sept. 2 and a narrow 2-1 victory on Sept. 25. The Sentinels outscored opponents 49-22 (2.7 goals per game) this season.
Kaislee Johnson has been the offensive catalyst for Mountain Ridge, tallying 22 goals and three assists to finish tied for second among all 6A scorers. The senior forward has received plenty of support from Kelsey Goodwin, who has contributed 12 goals and a team-high 13 assists.
Riverton (10-8) will be looking to overcome those close regular season defeats behind the offensive firepower of Katie Cole, whose 16 goals lead the Silverwolves. Sara Briganti (10 goals, 6 assists) and Paisley Rogers (9 goals, 5 assists) provide additional scoring threats for a Riverton team averaging 3.0 goals per game.
The Silverwolves enter the matchup seeking to bounce back from a heartbreaking first-round exit last season, falling to Copper Hills in a penalty shootout after a 2-2 draw. Goalkeeper Lily Jackman has recorded four shutouts this season.
Mountain Ridge advanced to the semifinals last year for the first time in its brief program history before falling 5-0 to Davis. The Sentinels will look to use their home field advantage to reach the quarterfinals for the second consecutive season.
The winner of this matchup will advance to face the winner of Layton vs. American Fork in the quarterfinals.
No. 12 Layton at No. 5 American Fork, 4 p.m.
When No. 5 American Fork hosts No. 12 Layton in Tuesday’s 6A second-round playoff match, it will mark the first meeting between these programs since their memorable 2017 semifinal clash that saw the Cavemen advance on Rachel McCarthy’s overtime goal.
American Fork (10-5) enters the postseason with momentum, having won four of its last five matches under first-year head coach Tara Warner. The Cavemen are looking to bounce back after last year marked the first time since 2013 they failed to reach the quarterfinals.
The Cavemen have been paced by a balanced scoring attack featuring Avery Walbruch (7 goals, 5 assists), Suri Parsia (6 goals, 2 assists), and Cambree Ballard (6 goals, 3 assists). Defensively, goalkeeper Taybree Hansen has recorded four shutouts while the team has allowed just 1.3 goals per game this season.
Layton (8-9) has been competitive throughout the season despite its record, with five of its nine losses coming by just one goal or in shootouts. The Lancers have also shown they can play with elite competition, handing No. 1 Lone Peak its only loss in PKs on Aug. 28.
The Lancers’ offense is led by Ryann Jensen (7 goals, 2 assists) and Calli Holje (5 goals, 2 assists). Amelia Smith has contributed 4 goals and 3 assists, while goalkeeper Quincy Reisbeck has posted three shutouts.
Both teams feature balanced attacks with no dominant scorer. American Fork has averaged 1.8 goals per game while conceding 1.3, while Layton has scored 2.1 per contest while allowing 2.0.
The winner will advance to the quarterfinals to face the winner of Mountain Ridge vs. Riverton.
No. 15 Cedar Valley at No. 2 Syracuse, 4 p.m.
The 6A state tournament second round features a first-ever matchup between two programs when No. 2 Syracuse hosts No. 15 Cedar Valley on Tuesday afternoon.
Syracuse (15-3) enters as one of the tournament’s favorites behind one of 6A’s most potent offensive duos. Taylee Hughes has terrorized opposing defenses all season, netting 22 goals (tied for second in 6A) while adding 6 assists. Her running mate Jocee Eddy has contributed 15 goals and a team-high 14 assists, making them perhaps the most dangerous scoring tandem in the classification.
Cedar Valley (9-10) comes into the matchup with momentum after an impressive 3-0 first-round victory over Salt Lake Academy. The Aviators feature a balanced attack led by Olivia Jones and Makena Fullmer, who have each scored 6 goals this season.
The Titans have been defensively sound all year, with goalkeeper Erin Bott recording 7 shutouts while allowing just 1.1 goals per game. Syracuse, which reached the semifinals last year before falling to eventual champion Lone Peak, has scored multiple goals in 13 of its 18 matches.
Cedar Valley will need strong performances from goalkeepers Zuri Gray (3 shutouts) and Kinsley Barney (1 shutout) to contain Syracuse’s high-powered offense. The Aviators have shown resilience in close games, with six of their nine victories coming by just a single goal.
The winner advances to face either No. 7 Weber or No. 10 Corner Canyon in the quarterfinals.
No. 10 Corner Canyon at No. 7 Weber, 4 p.m.
Seeds No. 7 Weber and No. 10 Corner Canyon are set to clash Tuesday in the 6A second round with Weber looking to end a lengthy quarterfinal drought while Corner Canyon aims to build on its season-ending momentum.
Weber (11-7) enters the matchup after closing the regular season with a shootout loss to Syracuse, falling 5-4 on penalties after the teams played to a 1-1 draw through overtime. Despite the setback, the Warriors finished third in Region 1 and are aiming to reach the quarterfinals for the first time since 2016.
Corner Canyon (10-6) snapped a five-game winless skid with an impressive 5-1 victory over Skyridge in the regular season finale. The Chargers, who reached the quarterfinals last year after a three-year drought, will try to recapture their early-season form when they started 7-1.
The Warriors are led by Sadie Fletcher, who has tallied 11 goals and 5 assists this season. Goalkeeper Kallie Wallace has been solid in net, recording 5 shutouts while anchoring a defense that has conceded just 1.4 goals per game.
The Chargers counter with one of 6A’s most balanced attacks. Layla Valadez (9 goals, 8 assists), Channing Wuest (8 goals, 3 assists) and Rachel Enslow (7 goals, 6 assists) give first-year head coach Kelsey Haag multiple scoring threats. Goalkeeper Olivia Edwards has posted 2 shutouts this season.
This marks the first-ever meeting between these programs despite both having established soccer traditions. Both teams have shown resilience in tight games, with Weber going 2-0 in shootouts and Corner Canyon earning four one-goal victories this season.
The winner will move on to face either No. 2 Syracuse or No. 15 Cedar Valley in the quarterfinals.
No. 14 Skyridge at No. 3 Farmington, 4 p.m.
When No. 3 Farmington hosts No. 14 Skyridge in Tuesday’s 6A second-round playoff match, the Phoenix will be looking to replicate their early-season success against the Falcons.
These teams met back on Aug. 21 in nonregion play, with Farmington claiming a 2-0 victory. The Phoenix (11-4-2) have been one of 6A’s most consistent teams all season, finishing second in Region 1 while allowing just 15 goals in 17 matches (0.9 per game).
Senior forward Oaklee Stanford has been the offensive catalyst for Farmington with 11 goals and 2 assists, while junior Taytem Grant has contributed 7 goals and 2 assists. The Phoenix have been particularly strong at home this season, posting a 7-2 record on their field.
Skyridge (7-11) enters the playoffs looking to overcome a challenging regular season that included a four-game losing streak to end Region 4 play. The Falcons feature a balanced attack led by Alexa Blood’s 8 goals, with Paisley Gardner adding 3 goals.
The Falcons’ schedule prepared them well for the postseason, featuring challenging matches against out-of-state competition during a three-game Idaho road trip in August and a difficult Region 4 slate.
Farmington has shown an ability to win close games, with eight of their 11 victories coming by two goals or fewer. The Phoenix closed the regular season with a 3-2 win over Davis, rallying from an early deficit.
Both teams feature strong goalkeeping, with Farmington’s duo of Abby Child and Olive Wayland combining for five shutouts on the season.
The winner advances to face either No. 6 Lehi or No. 11 Davis in the quarterfinals.
No. 11 Davis at No. 6 Lehi, 4 p.m.
No. 6 Davis and No. 11 Lehi renew a dormant rivalry Tuesday when the Darts travel to face the Pioneers in the 6A state tournament second round, marking the first meeting between these programs since a 2007 playoff contest.
Davis (10-6) enters the postseason looking to rebound from a 3-2 loss to Farmington in the regular season finale. The Darts have relied on balanced scoring this season, led by junior forward Kate Willard’s 12 goals and 2 assists. Reial Phongsavath (7 goals) and Samantha Maudsley (6 goals, 1 assist) provide additional offensive firepower.
The Darts have been inconsistent down the stretch, alternating wins and losses over their final six matches. Goalkeeper Kaitlyn Harris has recorded four shutouts this season for a Davis defense that has allowed 1.4 goals per game.
Lehi (12-6) is powered by the dangerous Lillie Watson, who leads the team with 16 goals and 3 assists. The Pioneers feature multiple scoring threats with Izze Dahl (6 goals, 5 assists), while Cali Ashton, Amarie Simmons, and Emery Thatcher have each netted 5 goals.
The Pioneers have been strong defensively at home behind goalkeeper Madi Ogden, who has recorded 5 shutouts this season. Lehi has held opponents to just 1.3 goals per game overall.
Both teams tested themselves against challenging nonregion schedules. Lehi took a preseason trip to Nevada where they went 3-0 and outscored opponents 17-2, while Davis faced five nonregion opponents before beginning Region 1 play.
The winner will advance to the quarterfinals to face either No. 3 Farmington or No. 14 Skyridge.
