No. 17 West at No. 1 Kearns
No. 17 West travels to face No. 1 Kearns in Tuesday’s 5A second-round playoff match, a rematch of two regular-season Region 4 contests.
When these teams met during the regular season, Kearns won both matchups decisively — 4-0 on Aug. 21 and 6-3 on Sept. 16.
West (8-10) enters the second round after a 1-0 victory over No. 16 Cyprus in the first round. The Panthers are led by Megan Nuvan, who has recorded eight goals and three assists this season. Kate Leonard (four goals, four assists) and Iris Riperton (four goals, two assists) provide additional offensive support.
The Panthers’ goalkeeping duties have been split between Anna Skliar (2.5 shutouts) and Sarah Pappas (1.5 shutouts), with Mireya Avila-Perez also contributing one shutout.
Kearns (13-1) earned the No. 1 seed after a dominant regular season in which they outscored opponents 54-19. The Cougars feature 5A’s third-leading scorer in Thianna Garcia, who has tallied 19 goals and six assists in just 14 games. Stacy Hernandez has added 10 goals and seven assists, while Nallely Rodriguez has contributed seven goals and seven assists.
Luna Cazares has been a key playmaker for the Cougars with six assists to complement her three goals. Goalkeeper Sofia Padilla has recorded five shutouts this season, with Mya Britt adding one more.
The teams have faced each other twice this season in Region 4 play, with Kearns winning both matchups.
No. 9 Maple Mountain at No. 8 Bountiful
When these teams met in the 2023 5A championship, Maple Mountain completed its Cinderella run with a 4-2 shootout win over Bountiful. Kelsey Jewkes scored for the Golden Eagles in that match, while Belle Sorensen tallied Bountiful’s goal before Anya Gulley made two critical saves in the shootout to secure the title for Maple Mountain.
Bountiful (11-4) enters the playoffs anchored by 5A’s leading scorer Belle Sorensen, who has tallied 21 goals and nine assists this season while adding to her impressive career total of 77 goals. Myka Page has contributed 11 goals and eight assists for the Redhawks.
Jane Hellewell has added two goals and four assists, while Emmy Sorensen has recorded two goals and three assists. Bountiful’s goalkeeping duties have been split between Chloe Bryson and Ayleen Chavez, who have each recorded two shutouts.
Maple Mountain (10-7-2) advanced to the second round with a 3-0 victory over Northridge in the first round. The Golden Eagles feature a balanced attack led by Mateya Hall and Hinckley Hassan, who have each contributed seven goals. Arie Bunce has added four goals and a team-high seven assists.
Haidyn Denton has contributed four goals and four assists, while Anya Gulley returns as goalkeeper with four shutouts this season. The Golden Eagles closed the regular season by winning five of their last seven matches.
Both teams have proven resilient in close matches this season, with Bountiful going 1-0 in shootouts and Maple Mountain posting a 0-1 record in penalty kick decisions.

No. 13 Clearfield at No. 4 Springville
After a decade-long hiatus, Clearfield and Springville renew their playoff rivalry when the No. 13 Falcons visit the No. 4 Red Devils in Tuesday’s 5A second-round match.
These programs last met in the 2014 playoffs, when Springville claimed a 4-0 victory over Clearfield with four different players scoring for the Red Devils in that shutout victory.
Clearfield (10-7) cruised into the second round with a convincing 5-0 victory over Taylorsville in the opening round. The Falcons feature one of 5A’s most dynamic offensive threats in Kamryn Weaver, who has recorded 15 goals and 10 assists this season. Tatum Thomas has added 12 goals and four assists to the Falcons’ attack.
Emmery Johnson has contributed six goals and one assist, while Eva Santiago has tallied one goal and four assists. Clearfield’s goalkeeping duties have been split between Taylor Simms (two shutouts) and Mia Nichol (one shutout).
Springville (13-5) earned the No. 4 seed and a first-round bye after closing the regular season with three straight victories. The Red Devils’ offense runs through Sage Conrad, who ranks among 5A’s top scorers with 16 goals and seven assists this season.
Adalie Dodd has contributed nine goals and six assists, while Trevi Jackson has added seven goals and one assist for Springville. Caroline Penrod has been solid in goal with four shutouts, with Sarah Penrod adding one more for the Red Devils.
Springville has been particularly strong at home this season, posting an 8-1 record on their field. Both teams have experience in pressure situations, with Springville going 1-1 in shootouts while Clearfield has won both of its overtime matches.

No. 12 Wasatch at No. 5 Timpview
Region 8 rivals Wasatch and Timpview meet for the third time this season when the No. 12 Wasps visit the No. 5 Thunderbirds in Tuesday’s 5A second-round playoff match.
The teams split their regular-season meetings, with Wasatch winning 1-0 at home on Aug. 28 before Timpview responded with a convincing 4-0 victory on its home field on Sept. 30. The rubber match now comes with significantly higher stakes — a spot in the 5A quarterfinals.
Wasatch (11-8-1) enters the postseason with momentum after defeating Woods Cross 3-1 in the first round. The Wasps are led by Ellie Karl, whose 16 goals and four assists place her among 5A’s top offensive threats. Kate Sargent has added three goals and five assists, while Kennedi Hunt has contributed three goals and three assists.
The Wasps have been resilient in tight matches, going 1-1 in shootouts and 1-0 in overtime games this season. Jade Pearson and Yuna Han have split goalkeeper duties, recording four and one shutouts respectively.
Timpview (14-4) earned the No. 5 seed and a first-round bye after finishing third in Region 8. The Thunderbirds boast one of the state’s stingiest defenses, with goalkeeper Amaya Tolman recording ten shutouts this season.
Offensively, Timpview features a balanced attack led by Ava Badger (eight goals, four assists) and Leah Atuaia (seven goals, eight assists). Naomi Ojuka and Ellie Robertson have each contributed six goals and two assists, while Sandra Sagers has added five goals and three assists.
The Thunderbirds have shown poise under pressure, posting a 2-1 record in shootouts this season.

No. 18 Alta at No. 2 Olympus
When No. 18 Alta visits No. 2 Olympus in Tuesday’s 5A second-round playoff match, the Hawks will be looking to recreate the magic of their stunning late-season victory over the defending state champions.
The teams’ regular-season meetings produced wildly contrasting results — Olympus dominated the first matchup 9-1 on Sept. 2 before Alta flipped the script with a surprising 2-1 overtime victory on Sept. 25.
This remarkable swing in outcomes adds intrigue to their third encounter of the season.
Olympus (14-2) claimed last year’s 5A championship with a shootout victory over Brighton, and the Titans have remained dominant this season, earning the No. 2 seed after an impressive 11-1 Region 6 campaign. Their lone region defeat came at the hands of Alta, providing the Hawks with a blueprint for another potential upset.
The Titans feature a potent offense led by Kiera Bradley, who has tallied 13 goals and five assists this season. Kya Newton has contributed 10 goals and three assists, while Eliza Anderson has added eight goals.

West Field (12-5-1) features a balanced scoring attack led by Emme Joseph and Julia Robbins, who have each tallied six goals this season. Marissa Hatch has added five goals and five assists, while Ellie Chugg has contributed four goals and four assists.
Goalkeeper Harlie Slaughter has recorded three shutouts for the Longhorns, who have shown resilience in tight matches with a 2-1 record in shootouts and a 2-1 mark in overtime games.

Halli Wright has added nine goals and seven assists for the Bees, while Desarae Elegante has registered five goals and five assists. Goalkeepers Emma Nelson and Mia Page have combined for eight shutouts this season.
Hillcrest (14-4) earned the No. 2 seed and a first-round bye after going 11-1 in Region 2 play. The Huskies feature their own impressive scoring tandem in Ella Blackbourn and Capri Perkins.
