Mike McCoy is an NFL head coach again.
McCoy, who was a quarterback at the University of Utah from 1992-1994, was named interim head coach of the Tennessee Titans on Monday after the team fired Brian Callahan.
McCoy, 53, was head coach of the San Diego (now Los Angeles) Chargers from 2013-2016. He has been employed in the NFL since 2000, having also spent time with the Carolina Panthers, Denver Broncos, Arizona Cardinals and Jacksonville Jaguars.
He had joined the Titans this season as a senior offensive assistant and takes over a team that has a 1-5 record with 2025 NFL Draft No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward leading the way at quarterback.
McCoy started his college career at Long Beach State but transferred to Utah when LBSU’s football program folded. He remains third in Ute history in career passing yards with 7,404, a single yard ahead of Travis Wilson.
