Dave Portnoy stopped by the Creamery on Ninth in Provo last week.

It was just one of the many stops that the president of Barstool Sports made while in Provo for “Big Noon Kickoff,”

Portnoy has become known for his one-bite pizza reviews, but he expanded his reviews to ice cream while on BYU’s campus.

In a video review he shared on X on Friday, Portnoy said he was “trying to immerse myself in everything Provo,” he said.

When he went to the Creamery on Ninth on Friday, he called it “the most happening spot on campus.”

“It’s an absolute mob scene to get ice cream at 1 o’clock on a Friday,” Portnoy said. “So here we go. They make their own, and I think this is what we’ll learn. They can’t swear — Mormons that is. You can’t drink. No coffee, but they’ll go in on the sweets and the candy like you read about. So it’s a mob scene. One bite, one lick. Everyone knows the rule."

Portnoy was disappointed the Creamery didn’t have his favorite flavor — chocolate chip. So he chose the cookies and cream, instead of some of the more unique flavors the creamery has to offer — such as Graham Canyon or its new 150 Swirl, which was created to celebrate BYU’s 150th birthday.

His cookies and cream decision got a stamp of approval from former BYU receiver Puka Nacua, who said the flavor “is the way to go,” in a post on X.

But what did Portnoy think?

“This is great ice cream. This is great ice cream, and I am an ice cream guy — shoutout (The) Ice Creamsmith (in) Dorchester. This is spectacular ice cream," Portnoy said.

Before he even took a bite, Portnoy’s face revealed he was impressed.

“I don’t want to keep giving out monstrous scores (that I) keep giving out, but this is spectacular ice cream. No wonder there is a line around the corner,” he said.

Portnoy gave the Creamery on Ninth a score of 9.4.

“This is great ice cream. Creamery on Ninth, best campus ice cream I’ve ever had. Provo’s doing it for me. I don’t need to drink. I’ll eat,” he said.

Upon learning about Utah State’s Aggie Ice Cream, Portnoy wrote on X that he “may have stumbled upon a rivalry more bitter than the Holy War.”
