Weber State announced Monday that it will be parting ways with head football coach Mickey Mental effective immediately.
“We want to thank coach Mental for his efforts and the passion he put into our football program,” Weber State athletic director Tim Crompton said in a statement. “We wish nothing but the best for him and his family in the future.”
Mental succeeded current BYU defensive coordinator Jay Hill at the helm of the Wildcats program in 2022, posting a 13-20 overall record in three seasons along with a 8-14 mark in Big Sky Conference play.
Prior to serving as head coach, Mental had been on staff at Weber State since 2020.
Weber State has announced that Brent Myers will take over as the team’s interim head coach while a national search to fill the position permanently has begun.
Myers has coached in Ogden since 2014 and had previously been Weber State’s associate head coach under both Mental and Hill.
The Wildcats, currently 3-7 on the year, have two regular-season contests remaining.
