Brock Harris is one of BYU’s top football commits in program history, in terms of 247 Sports rating.

But before Harris takes the field at LaVell Edwards Stadium, he’ll head into the mission field.

The talented tight end prospect plans to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints prior to enrolling at BYU.

He announced Friday that he will be serving in the Washington Spokane Mission and beginning his service in January.

Harris is rated as a 4-star recruit by 247 Sports as the No. 2 prospect in the state of Utah and No. 5 tight end in the country. He chose BYU over competing offers from the likes of Alabama, Michigan, Florida, Notre Dame and other notable Power schools.

In his senior year at Pine View High in St. George, Harris caught 61 passes for 1,050 yards and 16 touchdowns.

According to BYU, 56 current Cougar players have served missions, including captains Chase Roberts, Tanner Wall and Keanu Tanuvasa.

Additionally, fellow top recruit Ryder Lyons plans to serve a mission prior to arriving at BYU, having been called to the Florida Orlando Mission earlier this month.

Harris and Lyons are both graduating from high school in December in order to begin their missions sooner.
