BYU just handed TCU its most lopsided loss of the season.
The Cougars pummeled the Horned Frogs 44-13 Saturday night in Provo, marking both the most points allowed and fewest points scored for TCU in 2025.
“They answered the call,” TCU head coach Sonny Dykes said of BYU. “... I thought they just made plays. I thought their quarterback played exceptionally well, took care of the ball. They didn’t turn the ball over. So you got to give them a lot of credit.
“... You could tell, you know, BYU was motivated. Probably disappointed in the way that they played last week (at Texas Tech), and really played at a high level today.”
BYU scored on its first seven drives and ended up posting 447 yards of total offense, with TCU failing to record a sack or turnover against the Cougars.
“We had a hard time getting off the field defensively. We’ve been playing really good defense, and we struggled tonight,” Dykes said. “We had a hard time getting them stopped. Anytime we got them into a third down or a fourth down, they executed at a really high level and made a (good) play, we just had a hard time getting them stopped.”
Freshman quarterback Bear Bachmeier was excellent for the Cougars, throwing for 296 yards and a touchdown while running for 59 yards and another score in one of his better outings of the season.
“I thought he made, you know, critical plays in critical parts of the game,” Dykes said of Bachmeier. “When we got him in third down or fourth down, he executed at a really high level. He threw the ball well, ran the football well, didn’t turn it over, played like a veteran quarterback.”
With the loss, the Horned Frogs are now 6-4 on the year and 3-4 in Big 12 play.
“It was a good crowd, it’s a tough place to play. It was loud,” Dykes said of the LaVell Edwards Stadium atmosphere.
“... Our guys were excited to play, I can promise you. We just didn’t get off to a great start, BYU took the ball down and scored quickly on us and got us on our heels pretty quickly. We had a hard time recovering.”
