The third edition of this year’s College Football Playoff rankings have been released, with BYU and Utah each moving up one spot.
Following dominant wins over the past weekend, the Cougars are now ranked at No. 11 in the Playoff rankings, with the Utes at No. 12, as revealed on ESPN Tuesday night.
Three 2-loss teams ranked just ahead of 9-1 BYU: Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Alabama.
If the Playoff started today, the Cougars and Utes would be the first two teams on the outside looking in, with both the ACC champion and Group of 5 representative Tulane jumping over them into the field.
In the event that neither BYU nor Utah wins the Big 12 championship game, each team’s Playoff hopes lie with teams ranked ahead of them — those in the No. 6 to No. 10 range — losing again in the regular season.
Texas Tech, who has defeated both BYU and Utah, is now ranked at No. 5. The other Big 12 teams in the rankings are No. 23 Houston and No. 25 Arizona State.
