A big second quarter pushed Wasatch to a strong 53-44 victory over Cedar Valley on Friday night. With the win, Wasatch remains undefeated and moves to 6-0 on the season.
Wasatch was led by Mahala Speredon, who led all scorers with 19 points, while Danielle Garner also had herself a stellar night with 12.
Wasatch got off to a slow start, scoring just eight points in the opening quarter, and the Wasps trailed 15-8 at the end of the frame.
But Wasatch quickly made the needed adjustments and had a dominant second quarter on both ends of the court. Defensively, Wasatch held Cedar Valley to only four points in the quarter.
While tightening things defensively, Wasatch started to heat up on the offensive side as well and scored 19 in the quarter, resulting in a 27-19 advantage heading into half.
The message from Wasatch head coach Audrey Hull to her players was simple: Get back to doing what you know how to do.

“We just had to settle in and trust each other and go back to what we had worked on because Cedar Valley is one of the best pressing teams that you’re going to see, so we just had to go back, trust each other and make solid passes, take care of the ball,” Hull said.
Cedar Valley continued to hang tough in the second half, but the big second quarter by Wasatch proved to big of a deficit to overcome. Every time Cedar Valley tried to go on a run, Wasatch was quick to answer.
“This is a special team,” Hull said. “I have four seniors that start and 10 seniors on the whole team, so they’ve been together a long time.

“We love each other and we all work well together. I think that is our secret sauce, just the love and trust we have for each other.”
Hull could not be more proud of what she is seeing out of her team right now, but she is certainly not content and satisfied, knowing that her team still has plenty they need to work on, particularly with taking care of the ball.
“I definitely want to always work on taking care of the ball. I feel though like we did a really good job of boxing out, that is something we usually try to work on as well,” she said.
“I am just really proud of these girls. The great thing about my girls is that I never have to say we need more effort because they always give 100%.”
