BYU’s bowl destiny is set.
The Cougars have accepted an invitation to play in the Pop-Tarts Bowl, where they will face ACC foe Georgia Tech.
The matchup was first reported Sunday by Brett McMurphy of On3 Sports, coming after McMurphy’s earlier report of Notre Dame electing to forego a bowl game entirely rather than play BYU in the Pop-Tarts Bowl.
Georgia Tech, who came in at No. 22 in the final College Football Playoff rankings, went 9-3 in the regular season. The Yellow Jackets finished in a 5-way tie for second place in the ACC but missed the conference championship game due to tiebreaker rules.
The first Pop-Tarts Bowl was held in 2023, where the game’s anthropomorphic Pop-Tart mascot stole the show and became a viral sensation. For the game’s second edition in 2024, two more Pop-Tart mascots were added to the fold to continue the comic antics.
The bowl’s winner receives the honor of eating the Pop-Tart mascot in a postgame celebration — though it’s actually an large replacement Pop-Tart.
Big 12 teams have won the past two Pop-Tarts Bowl matchups — Kansas State defeated NC State in 2023, and Iowa State got the win over Miami in 2024.
Under Kalani Sitake, BYU has gone 5-2 in bowl games, most recently routing Colorado last year in the Alamo Bowl.
The Pop-Tarts Bowl will be held on Saturday, Dec. 27 at Camping World Stadium in Orlando. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. EST.
