Utah sophomore quarterback Isaac Wilson will enter the transfer portal.

He posted the news on his X page on Monday evening and expressed his thanks to coach Kyle Whittingham and the program.

“I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to The University of Utah for the incredible opportunities, support, and experiences I’ve had during my time here. To Coach Whittingham and the rest of the staff and of course my teammates and brothers, and everyone who believed in me — thank you for helping me grow both on and off the field,“ Wilson wrote.

The memories made and lessons learned will stay with me forever. To the amazing fans, your unwavering support has meant the world to me and has been a constant source of motivation. After thoughtful consideration and discussions with my family, I’ve decided to enter the transfer portal with three years of eligibility remaining. I am excited for what the future holds as I continue to pursue my goals in football and beyond."

The former Corner Canyon star was the Utes’ starter for much of the 2024 season after quarterback Cam Rising was injured for the majority of that year. Wilson started seven games for the Utes in his true freshman season, throwing for 1,510 yards and 10 touchdowns with 11 interceptions and a 56.4% completion rate.

Wilson was publicly named the backup quarterback by Kyle Whittingham in the fall ahead of the 2025 season, but freshman Byrd Ficklin rose to QB2 instead during the season. Wilson played just 12 snaps this year.

With Utah confident in keeping both starting quarterback Devon Dampier and Ficklin for next season, there isn’t a clear path to playing time for Wilson.

Wilson, a former four-star recruit, entered the transfer portal at the conclusion of the 2024 season, only to withdraw and return to Utah for the 2025 campaign.

Wilson is the third Ute to announce his intention to enter the transfer portal, which opens on Jan. 2.

Freshman cornerback Jaylen Moson and four-star freshman linebacker Christian Thatcher are the other two players that have announced their intentions to enter when the portal opens.
