Steve Young is headed back to the Pro Bowl.

Young was selected to the Pro Bowl seven times before he retired in 2000. Now, 26 years later, he’ll return to the Pro Bowl, but this time in a different role.

On Monday, the NFL announced that Young and his former San Francisco 49ers teammate Jerry Rice would be the coaches for this year’s Pro Bowl. Young will coach the AFC team, while Rice will coach the NFC.

Young has flag football coaching experience after he coached his daughters’ varsity flag football team, as the Deseret News previously reported.

The two 49ers legends — and this year’s coaches — were part of the last 49ers team to win a Super Bowl in 1995.

In that 49-26 win over the San Diego Chargers, Young threw for six touchdowns. Half of those went to Rice.

Brothers and Super Bowl MVPs Peyton Manning and Eli Manning coached the last Pro Bowl. Peyton Manning was the coach of the AFC, and Eli Manning was the coach of the NFC.
