Samson Nacua was arrested last weekend in connection to an alleged car theft, NBC4 Los Angeles reported Wednesday.
Nacua, 27, allegedly took Los Angeles Lakers forward Adou Thiero’s car without Thiero’s permission. Trey Rose, 27, was also arrested.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department told NBC4 that the vehicle was tracked to One Hotel on West Hollywood’s Sunset Boulevard, where Rose and Samson Nacua had allegedly valeted the car before entering the hotel.
Deputies then reviewed security footage to identify the suspects, who they found quickly and arrested on suspicion of taking Thiero’s vehicle.
“During the initial investigation, it was discovered that suspect Nacua took the vehicle from the Wilshire location, and suspect Rose was the driver when they arrived at the Sunset location,” the sheriff’s department said in a statement, per NBC4. “Both suspects were arrested for taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent.”
NBC4 reported it was “unclear if either suspect has an attorney who can speak on their behalf.”
ESPN reported that Rose and Nacua “were released under California Penal Code Section 849(b), meaning there were insufficient grounds to file a complaint.”
Samson Nacua is the older brother of Los Angeles Rams receiver Puka Nacua.
Samson Nacua was previously a receiver at Utah and BYU. This year, he played for the Michigan Panthers in the UFL.
In April, he was suspended by the UFL after slapping a fan, ESPN reported.
He and the Panthers made it to the UFL Championship this summer but lost to older brother Kai Nacua and the DC Defenders.
