Not sure which Christmas movies to watch this year? Jimmer Fredette may be able to help.
On a recent episode of his podcast “From the Logo with Jimmer Fredette,” Fredette ranked his top three Christmas movies.
“There’s so many good ones. There’s some that are nostalgic to me that I think are in the top three of Christmas movies of all time, for me specifically,” he said.
Is ‘Die Hard’ a Christmas movie?
Before Fredette unveiled his rankings, he weighed in on whether “Die Hard” is indeed a Christmas movie.
“Die Hard is not a Christmas movie. I’m just going to tell you, throw it out. It is not a Christmas movie. I don’t care what anyone says. It’s not a Christmas movie. We’re going beyond that, OK?” Fredette said.
No. 3
Fredette knew that his third favorite Christmas movie would be controversial, but it’s a movie that holds a special place in his heart and memories.
It’s one that he “used to watch that on repeat when I was younger,” he said.
Coming in at No. 3 for Fredette is “Frosty the Snowman.”
Fredette’s co-host Spencer Linton questioned whether the TV special even qualified as a movie
“It’s a TV special/movie. I mean, it’s only like less than 30 minutes, but I don’t care. I watch that thing constantly. I love ‘Frosty the Snowman.’ I look back on it. It is a little weird. It is a little creepy. There’s a lot of stuff going on with it, but I don’t care,” Fredette said.
For Fredette, the movie signaled the official start of the Christmas season.
“When I was younger, when ‘Frosty the Snowman’ came on, and I watched it on CBS or whatever it was, it was Christmas time, and it is nostalgic for me. Sorry that is my No. 3.
“You’ve had some hot takes, bro. That might be one of the hottest,” Linton said.
Fredette said he doesn’t care if he gets “ripped” by listeners. He’s standing by his opinion.
“Frosty the Snowman” is available for streaming on Disney+, Hulu and Peacock.
No. 2
Fredette’s second favorite Christmas movie isn’t as shocking. The former BYU Cougar ranked Will Ferrell’s “Elf” as the No. 2 Christmas movie of all-time.
“I love ‘Elf.’ Will Ferrell, he’s hilarious,” he said. “It just feels good. I love it. It’s funny. It’s uplifting. My kids really like watching it now. It’s just a lot of fun. So, just a great, great movie.”
“Elf” can be streamed for free on HBO Max for subscribers.
No. 1
Much like his No. 2 pick, Fredette’s favorite Christmas movie is less of a surprise.
“I love ‘Home Alone.’ The original ‘Home Alone’ is so fun,” he said.
The film starring Macaulay Culkin brings Fredette back to his childhood, especially the first “Home Alone.” The original film led to the creation of five sequels, though only the second film stars Culkin.
“Man, Kevin McCallister in that whole thing and just going through and setting up the traps and eating all this ice cream while watching his shows and just all the stuff that goes into it, just makes me think of my childhood, think of Christmas, and I love ‘Home Alone.’”
“Home Alone” can be streamed on Disney+ and Hulu.
