On Saturday evening, less than 24 hours after officially being named head football coach at the University of Michigan, Kyle Whittingham made his first public appearance, albeit a very brief one.
In a 14-second video posted on the official Michigan Football social media pages that was taken from the team hotel in Orlando as it prepares for its bowl game, Whittingham said, “Michigan fans, coach Kyle Whittingham. Honored to be here. Honored to be the football coach at this great university.
“Can’t wait to get working with our players, getting to know them and getting Michigan Football to where it should be.”
Whittingham was the head coach at Utah for 21 seasons and won nearly 67% of his games before stepping down earlier this month.
He will be formally introduced as the Wolverines’ coach at a press conference Sunday at the team hotel.
Michigan will face Texas in the Citrus Bowl on Dec. 31. Interim coach Biff Poggi will lead the Wolverines in that game.
