When Utah Utes star defensive end John Henry Daley announced on Dec. 30 that he would be entering the transfer portal, the wide assumption was that he would follow former Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham to Michigan.
As On3’s Pete Nakos first reported Thursday evening, that will in fact be the case, as Nakos reported that Daley has committed to the Wolverines.
Daley himself announced it later Thursday evening.
As a sophomore for the Utes in 2025, Daley tallied 48 tackles (24 solo, 24 assisted), 11.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and a pass deflection.
His 11.5 sacks were tied for sixth in the nation in the regular season, and that was with missing almost all of Utah’s final two regular season games after he suffered a season-ending injury Nov. 22 against Kansas State.
He was tied for second at the time of his injury.
The 6-foot-4, 247-pound Daley was a true breakout star in 2025, as he had tallied just seven tackles and one sack over four games in the previous two seasons combined.
He had transferred to Utah for the 2024 season after playing the 2023 campaign at BYU.
A member of the high school graduating class of 2021, Daley served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Brazil before his season at BYU.
