No. 17 Cedar Valley edged out No. 16 Weber 50-47, advancing to face No. 1 Westlake in the Class 6A state tournament’s second round. Cedar Valley gained a slight advantage in the third quarter, outscoring Weber 14-9. Carson Stocking led the Aviators with 20 points, two 3-pointers, and standout contributions on rebounds, assists, and steals. Jake Thomas was the leading scorer for Weber, tallying 14 points and one 3-pointer.

Salem Hills 67, Box Elder 58
No. 13 Salem Hills triumphed over No. 20 Box Elder 67-58 in the first round of the Class 5A state tournament. Elijah Gasser led Salem Hills with 15 points, while Jake Polson added 12. For Box Elder, Krew Peterson and Ryan Jenson each scored 11 points. With the victory, Salem Hills advances to face No. 4 Wasatch in the second round.
West 74, Maple Mountain 62
No. 18 West pulled off an upset over No. 15 Maple Mountain, winning 74-62 in the first round of the Class 5A state tournament. The Panthers sealed their victory with a dominant 30-point fourth quarter. Elijah Albertson led West with 19 points, while teammate Samiu Taukiuvea added 17. Solomon Krommenhoek scored 20 points for Maple Mountain. West will face No. 2 Olympus in the second round.
Payson 79, West Jordan 41
Payson dominated West Jordan 79-41 in the first round of the Class 5A state tournament. Scott Bylund led the Lions with 13 points, including three 3-pointers, while Blake Jenson added 18 points. Ahmad Mullahkhul tallied 13 points for West Jordan. Payson pulled away in the third quarter, outscoring the Jaguars 29-7, and will face No. 8 Bountiful in the second round.
Woods Cross 67, Northridge 49
No. 11 Woods Cross beat No. 22 Northridge 67-49 in the first round of the Class 5A state tournament. Woods Cross opened up a commanding lead with a 20-9 second quarter and never looked back. Bryson Watson stood out for Woods Cross with 20 points, hitting five 3-pointers, while Elliot Bendinger added 17. Theo Roach led Northridge with 17 points, including three 3-pointers. Woods Cross will face No. 6 Cyprus in the second round.
Pleasant Grove 58, Fremont 40
Pleasant Grove defeated Fremont 58-40 in the first round of the Class 5A state tournament. The Vikings pulled away in the third quarter, outscoring Fremont 22-18 to solidify their lead going into the final period. Zach Hancock led all scorers with 20 points for Fremont, while Preston White had 13 points for Pleasant Grove. Pleasant Grove advances to face No. 5 Orem in the second round.
Alta 60, Hillcrest 48
Alta defeated Hillcrest 60-48 in the first round of the Class 5A state tournament. Alta’s Krew Eckman led the game with 17 points, while Hillcrest’s Anthony Burris scored 13 points, including two 3-pointers. Colin Hansen added 13 points for Alta, and despite a strong third quarter from Hillcrest, Alta outscored the Huskies 20-11 in the fourth to secure the win. Alta advances to face No. 1 Timpview in the second round.
Roy 69, Clearfield 59
No. 10 Roy defeated No. 23 Clearfield 69-59 in the first round of the Class 5A state tournament. Roy was led by Boston Greenhalgh, who scored 28 points, including four 3-pointers, along with three rebounds and four assists. Jesse Jones contributed with 11 points, 10 rebounds, and one block for the Royals. Clearfield’s Jack Galvan scored 23 points, making five 3-pointers. Roy now advances to face No. 7 Springville in the second round.
Viewmont 69, West Field 61
No. 19 Viewmont defeated No. 14 West Field 69-61 in the first round of the Class 5A state tournament. Carson Tovey led Viewmont with 23 points, including three 3-pointers, along with nine assists and one block. Jaden Fowers was the top scorer for West Field with 19 points, aided by one 3-pointer. Viewmont pulled away with a 22-14 third quarter surge and will face No. 3 Highland in the second round.
